TEHRAN The State Inspectorate Organization sends an investigation team to the southwestern Province of Lorestan to investigate the recent riots in the city of Khorramabad.
The team is sent upon an order of the Judiciary Chief Ayatollah Mahmoud Shahroudi.
The riots which broke out since Friday have taken one life, several injuries and damages to government offices.
The Office for Consolidation of Unity (OCU) which was supposed to hold its annual meeting in Khorramabad, held an free tribune ... session in which values were sacrilege. As a result the inhabitants of Khorramabad were infuriated and conveyed their dissatisfaction to the Governorate. The provincial security council, headed by the governor, held a meeting and decided to ban the OCU's seminar.
When the council consulted the Interior Ministry, the ministry opposed the decision of the local officials.
However the case was sent to the Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) on Saturday. The SNSC too agreed that the seminar must be banned.
Mohsen Armin, a member of the Majlis National Security and Foreign Relations Commission, who had gone to Khorramabad, suggests that the governor must be dismissed because he has not been able to maintain the security of the city in the face of a legal seminar.
When the seminar was banned according to the decision of the provincial security council, riots begin in the city.
A Law Enforcement Forces personnel was shot dead by an assault rifle.
When the governor participated in the funerals held for the assassinated LEF personnel, he was attacked and beaten up. Meanwhile, members of the Office for Consolidation of Unity (OCU) in Tehran on Tuesday called for reaction against the tension making circles which are threatening the system.
Ali Afshari said at a press conference that new moves are being made to undermine the student movements. He said some anti-reformists are right now playing the role of the outsider oppositions inside the country, according to IRNA.
He added Khorramabad incidents showed that the government does not have the necessary lever and that there are ambiguities in its macro policies.
He added that the government should announce its inability to take disciplinary forces under its control. He added that Mafia groups are trying to create a critical and violent atmosphere by the cooperation of their media.
OCU will held a general assembly in two weeks, it was announced yesterday.
According to IRNA, Governor Nourollah Abedi sustained physical injuries inflicted by assailants chanting slogans against Interior Minister Abdolvahed Mousavi Lari, the ministry's deputy for political affairs Mohsen Tajzadeh and the Office for Consolidation of Unity (OCU) whose planned meeting triggered the violent clashes.
No arrest was reported.
Meanwhile, Tehran deputy to Majlis Mohsen Armin said yesterday that he would question the issue from two ministers of information and interior.
Armin was also attending the Khorramabad conference and said the conference was held to support the system and rule of government.
He said incidents of Khorramabad showed that certain circles have penetration into the organizations and even the system and are trying to weaken the system through this penetration.
He continued these circles are armed with weapons of tension creating and if they will they can create riots and undermine government's power.
Meanwhile, three Majlis deputies representing the southern city of Ahvaz, Khuzestan Province, lashed out at attackers of a bus on Sunday carrying students returning from a conference in the southwestern city of Khorramabad that was cancelled because of ensuing violent protests.
"Who are these people who brazenly attack a gathering that supports views contrary to theirs supposedly in defense of values?" the statement, a copy of which reached IRNA on Tuesday, read in part.
Unidentified assailants attacked a bus carrying student members of the Office for Consolidation of Unity (OCU) returning from a scheduled conference in Khorramabad cut short on account of ensuing protests and clashes which left a policeman dead and several people wounded.
Police intervened to quell the violence after assailants hurled bricks and stones at the bus as it was passing through the city of Boroujerd on its way to Tehran.
The mass wide-ranging unrest in Khorramabad began on Thursday after two leading intellectuals, Mohsen Kadivar and Abdolkarim Soroush, invited to address the conference, were prevented at the airport from boarding a vehicle which was to bring them to the conference site.
"Are not officials aware of the people spearheading such moves to attack the younger generation disguised in their nods and smiles?" the statement read.
Khorramabad has been the scene of violent demonstrations and counter-demonstrations between reformists and hardliners since Saturday.
Controversy still shrouds the events unfolded in Khorramabad since Friday.
